成果简介NOVELTY - Enteral feed formulation comprises (i) active component comprising nutrient component, and/or special formulation; (ii) anti-coagulant component to prevent adhesion of each granule from other granules, enteral feed tubes or other surfaces, to prevent clumping; (iii) binding components capable of encapsulating nutrients to increase bioavailability of active components, and binding agent having pre-biotic properties to enhance absorption of nutrients. USE - Enteral feed formulation capable of protectively encapsulating nutrients in granular form, used for preparing granulated enteral feed (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The enteral feed formulation has pre-biotic and pro-biotic properties and capable of nutrient encapsulation to preserve their properties until slow release of nutrients is initiated on reaching the digestive system of the patient. The granular form of the feed, when mixed with liquid components ensures that quantified nutrients and patient/disease targeted nutrients are duly delivered and made available for absorption by the patient's digestive system by overcoming at least loss/deterioration of nutrients along the delivery way, a shortcoming commonly associated with currently available enteral feeds. The granular feed additionally prevents regurgitation upon ingestion due to its specific granular structure, resulting in prevention of aspirational pneumonia among other associated complications and helps in eliminating contamination by bacterial overgrowth due to blockages typically associated with powdered enteral feeds. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) a granulated enteral feed made of enteral feed formulation, where the granular feed when mixed with pH balanced water or an appropriate alternative, generate anti-coagulant properties capable of forming the granular feed into smooth consistent free flowing feed; and (2) a process of making enteral feed formulation, which involves (i) adding an active component mixture containing nutrient components, and/or special formulation; binding components; and excipients containing emulsifier and carrier, together in a batch mixer to form a first mixture; (ii) mixing homogeneously the first mixture in the batch mixer to form a dough; (iii) extruding the dough through a die to form spaghetti shaped dough which is cut into desired length; (iv) dicing spaghetti shaped dough into granules; and (v) adding granules to a spheronizer to convert granules into spherical shape.
