成果简介NOVELTY - The method for processing of a polysaccharide involves: (a) taking 100 g a polysaccharide in a clean and dry petri-dish; (b) adding 10 g an organic modifier in a predetermined physical state to the polysaccharide and mixing with a glass rod to obtain a mixed sample; (c) heating the sample in a halogen oven at a predetermined temperature for a predefined time to obtain a halogenated mixture; and (d) neutralizing and washing the halogenated mixture with ethanol and drying in an oven. The polysaccharide is starch. The predetermined physical state of the organic modifier is melted (liquid) or unmelted. The polysaccharide and organic modifier are in a ratio of 90:10, 95:5, 85:15 or 80:20. USE - Method for processing of a polysaccharide useful as a bulking, thickening or stabilizing agent in food products such as acidic sauces, creams, yogurt, mayonnaise, curries, jam, jelly, confectionary and baked goods, and in agro waste composite packaging films. ADVANTAGE - The processed polysaccharide possesses a degree of substitution of 0.012-0.331 for carbon content addition. The processed polysaccharide possesses stable shelf life for a time-span of 3-6 months with moisture content in a range of 8-11%, solubility of 6.9-15.5%, and swelling power of 7.3-11.4 g/g, and has amylose content of 5-30%. The method has a cost- effective, time-efficient and easy to operate method for processing of a polysaccharide, and uses equipment and chemicals that are economically viable. The method is simple and economical.
