成果简介NOVELTY - The cooling system (100) for a battery pack (102) of a vehicle, has: a primary cooling system (104) operatively coupled to the battery pack to circulate a primary coolant through battery cells of the battery pack to maintain temperature of the battery pack within a predefined temperature range; an emergency cooling system comprising a reservoir (108) to store emergency coolant; sensors embedded in each of the battery cells to monitor parameters of each of the battery cells; and a control unit (112) operatively coupled with sensors and configured to ascertain, based on the inputs from the sensors, a thermal runaway in the battery pack. In an event of detection of a thermal runaway, the control unit is configured to activate the emergency cooling system by releasing compressed air from a compressed air source in the vehicle, and the emergency coolant from the reservoir. USE - Cooling system for a battery pack of a vehicle such as a hybrid vehicle (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The cooling system improves passenger safety in electric or hybrid vehicles, and overcomes the problem associated with thermal runaway in battery packs of electric vehicles, delays and slows down thermal runaway events and thus increase occupants' escape time and is simple, efficient, and reliable means for improved thermal safety of battery packs. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - The cooling system (100) for a battery pack (102) of a vehicle, has: a primary cooling system (104) operatively coupled to the battery pack to circulate a primary coolant through battery cells of the battery pack to maintain temperature of the battery pack within a predefined temperature range; an emergency cooling system comprising a reservoir (108) to store emergency coolant; sensors embedded in each of the battery cells to monitor parameters of each of the battery cells; and a control unit (112) operatively coupled with sensors and configured to ascertain, based on the inputs from the sensors, a thermal runaway in the battery pack. In an event of detection of a thermal runaway, the control unit is configured to activate the emergency cooling system by releasing compressed air from a compressed air source in the vehicle, and the emergency coolant from the reservoir. The emergency cooling system is configured to mix the released compressed air from a secondary air injection system (114) and the released emergency coolant from the reservoir, and deliver the emergency coolant mixed with the compressed air for circulation through the battery pack along with the primary coolant of the primary cooling system. The emergency coolant is a gaseous coolant or a liquid coolant such as ethylene glycol liquid. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for a method for cooling a battery pack of a vehicle. DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING(S) - The drawing shows an exemplary block diagram of the cooling system for a battery pack of an electric vehicle. 100Cooling system 102Battery pack 104Primary cooling system 108Reservoir 112Control unit 114Secondary air injection system
