| 成果简介 | NOVELTY - Polyethylene-based anion exchange membrane comprises 1- vinyl imidazole (1-VIm) and 4-vinylpyridine (4-VP) grafted onto linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) via gamma radiation induced grafting. The LLDPE film is irradiated at a dose of 50-100 kGy. The monomer to solvent ratio is 4:6 (4-vinyl pyridine to 7 glycerol-water). The graft copolymerization reaction is carried out for 96 hours, and the degree of grafting (DoG) achieved is 117.39%. USE - Polyethylene-based anion exchange membrane. ADVANTAGE - The polyethylene-based anion exchange membrane has improved conductivity, mechanical strength, enhanced dimensional stability and moderate alkaline stability. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for preparing an anion exchange membrane, which involves (a) cutting a linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) film into sheets of 4cm x 4cm and cleaning them with deionized water and methanol, (b) irradiating the cleaned LLDPE film with gamma radiation at a dose between 25kGy to 100kGy to induce free radicals using a Cobalt-60 source, (c) preparing a reaction mixture comprising 10 ml glycerolwater solvent system, 150 mg ferrous sulfate heptahydrate, and a combination of monomers including 4- vinyl pyridine and 1-vinyl imidazole in a glass reactor, (d) purging the reaction mixture with nitrogen gas for about 10 minutes to create an inert atmosphere and Immersing the pre-irradiated LLDPE films into the reaction mixture immediately after nitrogen purging, (e) continuing nitrogen purging for an additional 15 minutes after the films are submerged in the reaction mixture;f) Conducting the graft copolymerization reaction at approximately 60?oC in an agitated thermostat, (g) washing the grafted films thoroughly in methanol overnight to remove any unreacted monomers, followed by drying the films in an oven at approximately 60℃ for 24 hours, (h) modifying the grafted LLDPE films by soaking the film in a solution of methyl iodide (50% in methanol) for about 24-48 hours at room temperature, converting the quaternized membrane into a hydroxide exchange membrane by immersing it in 1M sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution for approximately 48 hours at room temperature, washing the hydroxide exchange membranes thoroughly with deionized water and storing them in deionized water to obtain the membrane. |
