成果简介	NOVELTY - Preparing 2-bromo-4-nitroimidazole (I) comprises: (a) dibrominating 4-nitro-1H-imidazole (III) in presence of suitable base and suitable solvent to obtain 2,5-dibromo-4-nitro-1H-imidazole (II); and (b) debrominating compound (II) using reductive dehalogenating agent and iodinating agent in presence of suitable acid to obtain compound (I). USE - Method for preparing 2-bromo-4-nitroimidazole. ADVANTAGE - The method provides 2-bromo-4-nitroimidazole with purity of more than 99.8%, and high yield, within a short period of time, in safe and cost-effective manner. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preparing 2-bromo-4-nitroimidazole of formula (I) comprises: (a) dibrominating 4-nitro-1H-imidazole of formula (III) in presence of suitable base and suitable solvent to obtain 2,5-dibromo-4-nitro-1H-imidazole of formula (II); and (b) debrominating compound (II) using reductive dehalogenating agent and iodinating agent in presence of suitable acid to obtain compound (I). An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for a method for purifying compound (I) having purity of more than 99.8% by HPLC, which comprises: (i) dissolving the compound (I) in suitable solvent; (ii) treating the resultant mass with charcoal; (iii) cooling the filtrate mass to 10-15℃; (iv) filtering the mass; and (v) drying at 50-55℃ for 6-7 hours.
