成果简介NOVELTY - Shear stiffening gel comprises a polymer matrix; a crosslinker; and a silica nanoparticle functionalized with thiol group; where thiol group is in the range of 10-15 wt.% with respect to the total weight of the silica nanoparticle. USE - Shear stiffening gel for preparing composite structure (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The shear stiffening gel ensures uniform distribution of particles in the dilatant gels. The composite structure possesses efficient dissipation of low to medium impact energies for development of dampers, shock absorption for gun recoil system, fortified bunkers or ballistic/blast impact protection materials, particularly for, personal protection systems. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Shear stiffening gel comprises a polymer matrix; a crosslinker; and a silica nanoparticle functionalized with thiol group; where thiol group is in the range of 10-15 wt.% with respect to the total weight of the silica nanoparticle; and the thiol group is selected from group consisting of R-SH, where R is alkyl, triethoxysilane or coumarin. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) a process for preparing shear stiffening gel, which involves treating a polymer matrix with a boric acid in a solvent to obtain a cross-linked mixture; mixing a thiol functionalized silica nanoparticle with the cross-linked mixture to obtain a homogenous solution; and subjecting the homogenous solution to hydrothermal reaction at a temperature in the range of 150-200 ℃ for a time selected in the range of 8-12 hours to obtain a shear stiffening gel composition; and (2) a composite, which comprises a shear stiffening gel; a functionalized carbon nanofiller; and a porous polyurethane scaffold; where, the porous polyurethane scaffold is partially able to fill with the shear stiffening gel comprising a thiol functionalized silica nanoparticles, a polymer matrix and boric acid.
