成果简介	NOVELTY - Universal fixture comprises a top fixture plate (3) comprising a central pocket defined as a cut out in the top fixture plate; a back plate (4) fixed on to the top fixture plate overlapping the central pocket; and a holding structure functionally coupled to the back plate, such that when the tube halves (7) are placed around the back plate in a wrapping fashion, the coupling of the back plate and the holding structure holds the tube halves tightly. USE - Universal fixture for joining and welding of straight or tapered tubes or pipes longitudinally used in petroleum/chemical/food industries. ADVANTAGE - The loading and unloading of tube halves for welding and joining is very simple and fast. The same fixture can be used for holding the tube halves of different sizes and shapes for joining. The fixture is cost-effective as it avoids the fabrication of separate mandrels for the tubes having different shapes and sizes. The fixture can also be used to hold the tapered tube/pipe halves and semitubes having taper angle on all walls such as tubes/pipes with cross-section similar to frustum of pyramids and cones during their welding. The fixture can also be used in joining the tube/pipe halves using various joining techniques such as laser welding, tungsten inert gas (TIG) or metal inert gas (MIG) welding, and riveting apart from friction stir welding. The fixture can also be used for friction stir processing of tubes/pipes. The fixture can be scaled up for joining of long tube/pipe halves and semi tubes in petroleum/chemical/food industries as modification.
