ADVANTAGE - The tetrabenazine intermediate Q salt preparation method is cost effective, has simple and safer process conditions, ensures higher yield and quality, and uses commercially low cost raw materials. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Tetrabenazine intermediate Q salt of formula (I) is new. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) a method for preparing the tetrabenazine intermediate Q salt; and (2)a method for preparing the tetrabenazine compound, which involves reacting 3-[(dimethylamino)methyl]-5-methylhexan-2-one with dimethyl sulfate in presence of suitable solvent to obtain the tetrabenazine intermediate Q salt, reacting with 6,7- dimethoxy-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline-hydrochloride of formula (IV) in presence of suitable solvent and suitable base to obtain the product. |
