成果简介NOVELTY - The method involves subjecting the wastewater to ultraviolet (UV) radiation in an acidic environment, and the UV irradiated wastewater is treated with an adsorbent. The wastewater is selected from a group comprising coke plant wastewater, biological oxidation treated (BOT) wastewater, industrial aqueous effluent and water from contaminated water bodies or any combination. The UV irradiation of the wastewater is conducted for about 1 hour to about 3 hours. USE - Method for performing treatment of wastewater from sources, such as coke plants to facilitate efficient removal of cyanide and color from wastewater. ADVANTAGE - The method reduces total cyanide content in the wastewater to less than 0.2 ppm and removes 99% of total cyanides from the wastewater, and reduces color in wastewater to less than about 200 Platinum-Cobalt (PtCo), and provides a multi-step method for the treatment of effluent or wastewater from sources, such as coke plants to facilitate efficient removal of cyanide and color from wastewater. The method overcomes the limitation and can be effectively employed for cyanide and color mitigation from industrial wastewater. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for use of a combination of UV irradiation and adsorbent for removing cyanide and colour from wastewater. DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING(S) - The drawing shows a graphical representation of removal of free cyanide from wastewater with and without subjecting the wastewater to UV irradiation.
