| 成果简介 | NOVELTY - System has (a) a holding tank for storage for holding a sufficient quantity of the spent Merox caustic (SMC) effluent, equipped with a pump, for flow or recirculation of the SMC effluent into a unit for mixing the effluent with carbon dioxide (CO2) or a mixture of CO2 with other gases at atmospheric pressure and temperature conditions, (b) a pump for pumping the SMC into a mixing unit at a predetermined flow rate and/or recirculation through the mixing unit, (c) a mixing unit for intimate and efficient mixing of the SMC effluent with CO2 or a mixture of CO2 with other gases at atmospheric pressure and temperature conditions at a predetermined rate to utilize CO2 to the maximum extent possible, (d) another holding tank with a provision for recycling the liquid effluent from its bottom to the first holding tank of the SMC effluent, and (e) a column, packed with packings of standard size and shape, with a provision of spraying an aqueous alkaline solution at the top of the column. USE - System for treatment of highly alkaline spent Merox caustic effluent containing salts of organic sulfides, phenolates, thiolates and naphthenates having a relatively high chemical oxygen demand and aromatic content by CO2 or CO2 containing gaseous mixtures. ADVANTAGE - The system enables to treat highly alkaline spent Merox caustic effluent with CO2 or another CO2-containing gaseous mixture, for sulfide/ COD reduction of the spent Merox caustic effluent, the reduction of COD of the SMC effluent to a sufficient level to make it amenable for biological treatment, to recover the organic pollutants from the SMC effluent as separate oil phase and make it amenable for recycling to the petroleum refining processes, provides the utilization of CO2-containing gaseous effluent of petroleum refining operations, another manufacturing industry or another thermal energy generation operation in a system designed to achieve efficient mixing of CO2 with the SMC effluent, to provide the CO2 treated spent caustic effluent with reduced alkalinity, in the pH range 8-9, and also provide the CO2-treated spent caustic effluent with reduced aromatic and phenolic content thus making it suitable for subsequent biological treatment units. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - System has (a) a holding tank for storage for holding a sufficient quantity of the spent Merox caustic (SMC) effluent, equipped with a pump, for flow or recirculation of the SMC effluent into a unit for mixing the effluent with CO2 or a mixture of CO2 with other gases at atmospheric pressure and temperature conditions, (b) a pump for pumping the SMC into a mixing unit at a predetermined flow rate and/or recirculation through the mixing unit, (c) a mixing unit for intimate and efficient mixing of the SMC effluent with CO2 or a mixture of CO2 with other gases at atmospheric pressure and temperature conditions at a predetermined rate to utilize CO2 to the maximum extent possible, (d) another holding tank with a provision for recycling the liquid effluent from its bottom to the first holding tank of the SMC effluent, (e) a column, packed with packings of standard size and shape, with a provision of spraying an aqueous alkaline solution at the top of the column, equipped with a pump for pumping alkaline solution from another tank of sufficient size for holding aqueous solution of alkali for recirculation in the packed column, and (f) another holding tank of sufficient size holds the treated SMC effluent for sufficient time to allow separation of the oil phase from an aqueous phase. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for a method for treatment of highly alkaline spent Merox caustic effluent containing salts of organic sulfides, phenolates, thiolates and naphthenates having a relatively high chemical oxygen demand and aromatic content by reaction with CO2 or CO2 containing gaseous mixtures, which involves: (a) storing untreated Spent MEROX Caustic (SMC) effluent released during the MEROX process in the first holding tank, (b) pumping the SMC effluent using the pump connected to the first holding tank, to maintain a predetermined flow rate through the Mixing unit, (c) starting simultaneously the flow of CO2 or mixture of CO2 with other gases into the mixing unit for mixing with the SMC effluent, (d) collecting the treated SMC effluent in a holding tank for sufficient time to allow separation of the oil phase and aqueous phase, and (e) separating the two phases and pumping them for further processing. |
