For an asynchronous electric motor with a squirrel-cage rotor, having 3 star-connected stator windings, and one pair of poles, discrete reduction of the speed of rotation of the asynchronous electric motor with a squirrel-cage rotor is provided by changing the number of vectors of the electromagnetic field of the stator per one revolution of the electromagnetic field without changing the frequency of the supply network by step-by-step switching on of the stator windings, taking into account the direction of the current in these windings and obtaining, due to said step-by-step switching on, a given sequence of said electromagnetic field vectors.
