成果简介NOVELTY - Defined configuration of thermal component within thermoplastic matrix, comprises smart thermoplastic composites comprising thermoplastic component (12) having first cross-sectional profile; and thermal component (14) having second cross-sectional profile and interfacing with thermoplastic component. The energy source (16) is configured to enable transmission of energy between thermal component and thermoplastic component. The energy sink (18) is configured to enable absorption of energy between thermal component and thermoplastic component. The control mechanism is configured to achieve pliable region of deformation, within thermoplastic component, upon receipt of transmitted energy, by creating controlled thermal gradient within region or volume of interest in thermoplastic component. The number of thermal components is determined by heat required for desired temperature distribution, for given maximum distance between thermal component and ambient environment / entity in the plane. USE - Defined configuration of thermal component within thermoplastic matrix to achieve controllable network of smart thermoplastic composites, used for absolute coverage of affected regions under thick and hard materials such as plaster slabs, fiberglass, polymer helmets, for external orthopedic immobilization, and for customized chairs, shoes, and morphable airfoils in aircraft. ADVANTAGE - Thermoplastic casts, helmets, supports, splints, braces, due to their high stiffness provide higher amount of rigidity than plaster-based supports which allows the thermal component to have a relatively less volumetric footprint and also weigh less. Using thermoplastic in the form of a mesh / grid decreases the amount of material and thus the cost, to an extent where it is economically competitive with the ubiquitously used plaster and fiberglass composites.
