| 成果简介 | NOVELTY - The process for preparation of a biosorbent to remove heavy metal contamination from water involves: preparation of a homogeneous mixture by mixing equal weights of a wet culture of a non-pathogenic microbe, and a microplastic in an acetone-water solvent system and stirring for an hour; then adding 2 mL 25% glutaraldehyde and further stirring for 10 more minutes, keeping the mixture thus obtained overnight to ensure cross-linking and evaporating at 70℃ in vacuum oven for 24 hours; and powdering the solid mass of the obtained yeast immobilized biosorbent. USE - Process for preparation of a biosorbent to remove heavy metal contamination such as uranium, cadmium, zinc, nickel and copper from water (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The remediation process exhibited enhanced removal efficiency of 96% uranium from 10 mL of 10 mg L-1solution of uranium at pH 5 and a Langmuir maximum adsorption capacity of 200 mg/g. The biosorbent is effective for removal of heavy metals like Uranium from the contaminated water under optimized conditions. The preparation of an eco-friendly biosorbent uses a simple and cost-effective method. The method effectively uses waste or pollutant materials, preferably a microplastic waste or pollutant combining with a microorganism to produce the biosorbent. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for the biosorbent for the removal of heavy metal contamination from water, which is a combination of polymethyl methacrylate, a microplastic and Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a non-pathogenic microbe. |
