| 成果简介 | NOVELTY - Method for altering magnetic properties of cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4) nanoparticles from superparamagnetic to ferromagnetic, involves dissolving iron(III) chloride and cobalt(II) chloride in a molar ratio of 1:2 in distilled water under nitrogen purging at room temperature for 10 minutes to form a precursor solution, adding a sodium hydroxide solution (1 M) dropwise to the precursor solution at 60℃ while stirring, where pH of a reaction mixture is maintained at 11 to obtain a color change from yellow to black, indicating formation of cobalt ferrite nanoparticles, continuing stirring of the reaction mixture at 50℃ for 60 minutes to increase growth of the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles, and washing the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles with distilled water and ethanol till the pH of washing solution reaches neutral to obtain the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles with high purity and uniform morphology with a size below a critical diameter. USE - Method for altering magnetic properties of cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4) nanoparticles from superparamagnetic to ferromagnetic. ADVANTAGE - The organic molecule functionalization imparts an improved electrical conductivity compared to non-functionalized cobalt ferrite nanoparticle. The method provides easy and facile in-situ functionalization on Cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4) magnetic Nanoparticles (MNPs) with aryl diazonium salts resulting in paramagnetic to the ferromagnetic phase transition of the MNPs at room temperature below critical particle sizes is done. The organic molecule functionalization imparts an improved electrical conductivity to non-functionalized cobalt ferrite nanoparticle. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Method for altering magnetic properties of cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4) nanoparticles from superparamagnetic to ferromagnetic, involves dissolving iron(III) chloride and cobalt(II) chloride in a molar ratio of 1:2 in distilled water under nitrogen purging at room temperature for 10 min to form a precursor solution,adding a sodium hydroxide solution (1 M) dropwise to the precursor solution at 60℃ while stirring, wherein pH of a reaction mixture is maintained at 11, to obtain a color change from yellow to black, indicating formation of cobalt ferrite nanoparticles, continuing stirring of the reaction mixture at 50℃ for 60 minutes to increase growth of the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles, and washing the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles with distilled water and ethanol till the pH of washing solution reaches neutral to obtain the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles with high purity and uniform morphology with a size below a critical diameter, functionalizing surfaces of the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles by reacting the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles with organic molecules (1mmol) comprising an aryl diazonium salt under controlled reaction conditions to form covalent carbon-metal bonds, and recovering the functionalized cobalt ferrite nanoparticles, where the functionalized cobalt ferrite nanoparticles are configured to exhibit ferromagnetic behavior at room temperature. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for a functionalized cobalt ferrite nanoparticle, comprises a cobalt ferrite nanoparticle core with a critical diameter size in a range of 10-12 nm and organic molecules covalently bonded to a surface of the cobalt ferrite nanoparticle via a reaction with an aryl diazonium salt. The functionalized cobalt ferrite nanoparticle is configured to exhibit ferromagnetic behavior at room temperature. |
