USE - Organoselenium compound for use as medicament, and ferroptosis inhibitor or anti-ferroptotic agent for preventing lipid peroxidation, and treating and/or preventing various diseases including functional, behavioral, or neurodegenerative disorder such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, hemorrhagic stroke, and ischemic stroke, and cardiovascular disease such as cardiomyopathy and cardiac hypertrophy (all claimed). Test details are described but no results given. ADVANTAGE - The compound (I) ensures human pathologies associated with neurodegenerative diseases, and improved cell survival from erastin induced ferroptosis. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Organoselenium compound of formula (I) or its polymorphs, stereoisomers, prodrugs, solvates, metabolites, intermediates, and salts is new. R1=2-20C alkyl, 2-20C alkenyl, 2-20C alkynyl or 3-20C cycloalkyl (all optionally substituted by oxo, hydroxy, carboxy, - COO(1-20C alkyl), 1-5C alkylamino, 1-20C alkyl, or 1-10C alkoxy, 6-15C arylamino, 3-15C heterocyclyl, 3-15C heteroaryl, or 6-20C aryl (all optionally substituted by hydroxy, amino, carboxyl, oxo, carbonyl, 1-20C alkyl, or -COO(1-20C alkyl)), or H; R2=6-20C aryl, 3-15C heterocyclyl or 3-15C heteroaryl (all optionally substituted by amino, 6-15C arylamino, 3-20C cycloalkyl, 1-20C alkyl, 7-20C alkylaryl, 6-20C aryl (all optionally substituted by OH, amino, cyano, 1-20C alkyl-6-15C arylamino, 6-15C arylamino, 3-20C cycloalkylamino, or 3-15C heterocyclyl), or group of formula (i)), H, OH, 1-5C alkylamino, 1-10C alkoxy or 1-10C alkylthio), where amino, 6-15C arylamino, 3-20C cycloalkyl, 1-20C alkyl, 7-20C alkylaryl, or 6-20C aryl (all optionally substituted by hydroxy, cyano, 3-20C cycloalkylamino, or amino, 1-20C alkyl-6-15C arylamino, 6-15C arylamino, or 3-15C heterocyclyl (all optionally substituted by hydroxy, oxo, amino, 1-20C alkyl, -COO(1-20C alkyl), or 3-20C cycloalkylamino); and R3,R4,R5=3-15C heterocyclyl (optionally substituted by 1-20C alkyl), H, 1-20C alkyl, 3-20C cycloalkyl, 6-20C aryl, 1-5C alkylamino or 1-10C alkoxy; or R4+R5=oxo or 3-20C cycloalkyl. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: 1. a method for preparing compound (I); 2. a pharmaceutical composition, which comprises a compound (I) or its salt together with carrier, optionally in combination with pharmaceutical compositions; and 3. a method for treating a disease or condition in a patent, which comprises administering compound (I) to a patient, where the disease or condition is caused by dysregulation of iron, thiol, or lipid peroxidation metabolism, redox homeostasis, or accumulation of reactive oxidation species (ROS), or lipid ROS due to impairment in the activity of antioxidant enzymes such as glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), and glutathione peroxidase 3 (GPX3).
