A sample of peripheral venous blood is taken. DNA extraction is followed by analysis of polymorphic variant rs17526264 (A>T) of the GPX4 gene. In case detection of genotypes rs17526264-A/T or rs17526264-T/T, high risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus is predicted.
