| 成果简介 | NOVELTY - Chemical-free fiber extraction from water hyacinth, involves sorting multiple stems of a predetermined size from a group of harvested water hyacinth stems; cleaning the multiple stems with fresh water; performing controlled stagnant water retting process, selected from a single-step water retting process and a two-step water retting process, on the cleaned multiple stems; performing underwater fiber extraction on the water retted multiple stems with an underwater combing tool to obtain extracted fibers; collecting the extracted fibers to obtain multiple bundles of wet fibers; and performing controlled drying of the multiple bundles of wet fibers; moistening the multiple bundles of dry fibers; and cleaning the fibers to remove remaining debris to obtain finished fibers. USE - Method of chemical-free fiber extraction from water hyacinth used for obtaining good quality long and fine water hyacinth fibers for handicrafts, textiles, composites, fibre yarns, and toy hair. ADVANTAGE - The method avoids fiber entanglement and clumping of water hyacinth fibers during water retting, reduces the harmful environmental impact of water hyacinth. The method is a low-cost, sustainable and easily accessible method of water hyacinth fiber extraction. The method assists the local weavers to generate more revenue by converting water hyacinth into marketable products. It will help in the generation of different revenue streams which can boost local economies. |
