| 成果简介 | NOVELTY - A bio-composite bags using banana peels, includes 100 g banana peels (approximately 3-4 banana peels), 10 mL glycerol as a plasticizer, 200 mL water for blending and boiling, 5 g cotton for added strength, and 10 mL lemon juice (provides citric acid for crosslinking and preservation). USE - Bio-composite bags used as grocery bags for carrying groceries, packaging material for packaging products, such as clothing, electronics and gifts, and agricultural films used as mulch films or protective covers in agriculture, which help reduce soil erosion and improve soil moisture while decomposing naturally, and used in food storage for wrapping or storing food articles, which offer compostable alternative to plastic wraps and bags, waste collection for collecting organic waste or compostable materials in households and commercial establishments, aiding in waste management and composting efforts, consumer goods packaging for products that require single-use or limited packaging, such as cosmetics, toiletries or small household items, and protective packaging for delicate items which need cushioning during transport. ADVANTAGE - The bio-composite bags are eco-friendly and quickly decomposes compared to traditional plastics. This decomposition not only minimizes environmental pollution but also transforms into organic matter that benefits soil health. By addressing both the problem of plastic waste and contributing positively to soil quality, the idea provides a dual benefit that supports sustainable practices. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for method of making the bio-composite bags using banana peels, which involves: (a) preparing banana peel pulp by washing the banana peels thoroughly to remove any dirt or residues, soaking the banana peels in water for a few hours to soften them, and blending the soaked banana peels with fresh water to create a smooth pulp; (b) preparing fiber by cutting cotton into small pieces or shredding to prepare for mixing, and mixing the cotton with the banana peel pulp to enhance the strength of the bio bag material; (c) adding glycerol to the banana peel and cotton mixture, where the amount can vary, but a common ratio is around 10-20% of the total mixture volume and help to make the material more flexible and less brittle, adding a small amount of lemon juice (citric acid) to the mixture, which can improve the texture and also act as a preservative, where 1-2 teaspoons per cup of pulp should suffice; (d) thoroughly mixing all ingredients until you achieve a uniform consistency, where the mixture should be smooth and pliable, pouring the mixture onto a flat surface or molding into desired bag shape, and using a rolling pin or pressing to flatten to an even thickness; (e) allowing the formed bags to dry completely, by air-drying at room temperature or using a low-heat oven if faster drying is needed, where the drying time is depended on the thickness of the material and environmental conditions; and (f) drying, inspecting the bio bags for any imperfections or uneven areas, and trimming any excess material as needed. |
