ADVANTAGE - The water hyacinth fibers have sustainable, eco-friendly alternative to synthetic medical textiles by developing a method for processing Eichhornia crassipes (water hyacinth) fibers through extraction, degumming to produce biocompatible, biodegradable, durable fibers with enhanced breathability, moisture retention suitable for wound care applications, eco-friendly alternative to synthetic fibers in medical applications, with potential advantages in wound healing due to their inherent breathability and bioactivity. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) a composite material, which comprises water hyacinth fibers combined with biocompatible polymers or other natural fibers, where the water hyacinth fibers provide structural support and moisture retention properties for chronic wound care applications, such as dressings or patches; (2) a method for fabricating medical sutures, which involve using purified and softened water hyacinth fibers, where the fibers are twisted, braided, or otherwise processed into suture threads that exhibit strength, biocompatibility, and resistance to degradation in biological environments; and (3) a hybrid suture material, which comprises water hyacinth fibers and natural biopolymers, where the biopolymer component enhances the mechanical properties, durability, and biodegradability of the suture for enhanced performance in medical applications. |
